The best way to represent myself is to say I am relationship driven. I believe everything in life is about relationship. We all have a relationship with ourselves, the question is, are we aware of it? We are always interacting in some kind of relationship, whether it be with our families, social life, ourselves, who we work with and how we spend our resources. I also believe we are all in a spiritual relationship of some kind and I feel that is a personal journey of discovery for every person. I also believe the only thing that exists outside of a relationship is isolation and dis/ease, or the lack of peace and contentment. With that said, as a therapist, I firmly believe in helping people discover what their relationship looks like with themselves and others, and what it may require to improve those relationships. I have been in recovery for over 25 years and have discovered that without a good value system to guide my recovery, it is very difficult to maintain long term sobriety.
I have a degree in the field of psychology and I have been trained and certified in dialectical behavior skills. I am also certified and licensed to diagnose and treat addiction related issues. I feel strongly that when someone is motivated to improve their life, they can and will, by discovering a system of values and a community of relationships that will encourage them to continue in their journey. I have been a musician most of my life and I use music as a way to help communicate the message of recovery and to encourage the people that I work with to not give up on themselves.
I believe recovery is about learning growing and practicing. I have spent much of my life in the outdoors and as an outdoorsman, I believe in being creative to help my clients use different adventure types of experiences to help them discover metaphors for their recovery, to help them create lasting memories that will remind them of how to use the simple things to keep moving forward toward the ultimate goal of peace with ourselves.
“It's not about the destination, although the destination is important, it is really about the journey. Because the journey teaches us how to find contentment in every trial through every relationship struggle.”
